A survey of the history and development of theories of literary criticism from the classical period to the present. Emphasizes historical and cultural influences on theoretical approaches, 284 with some attention to contemporary applications. Assesses advanced critical thinking skills through scholarly reading and written analysis, as well as through oral presentations. Three hours of lecture.
