Master of Science in Computer Systems Technology (Computer Science), MS

Overview

The Master of Science in Computer Systems Technology (MSCST) is an interdisciplinary program with components from the areas of Computer Science, Mathematics, Biology, and Business. It is administered by the Department of Computer Science within the College of Arts and Sciences. An interdisciplinary steering committee composed of faculty from the Departments involved recommends policy and curriculum for the program. Contact the MSCST Director for more details.

Entrance Requirements

The MSCST program assumes that baccalaureate preparation has included courses in Mathematics, Statistics, Programming, and Database. The entrance prerequisite courses may also be completed after admission; such course credits are not counted towards the degree. The entrance prerequisite courses must be completed before enrolling in respective 600/700-level courses that have prerequisites.

Degree Requirements

This degree requires the successful completion of 30 credit hours of coursework for all concentrations, except the Biomedical Informatics concentration that requires 31 credit hours. Twelve hours of approved graduate courses may be transferred. All course prerequisites must be met. The student must choose one of the concentrations at a time, but may take additional concentrations of MSCST towards the degree completion. Any 600-level course taken at LSUS as its 400-level undergraduate equivalent must be replaced with another 600/700-level CSC/CST elective course. For example, students who received credit for CSC 425 during their undergraduate studies cannot receive credit for CSC 625.

Admission Requirements

LSUS-wide minimum requirements and standard procedures apply for regular admission (see GRADUATE STUDY). GRE is not required for MSCST admission. A Statement of Purpose (maximum 500 words) and a letter of recommendation may be required and should be submitted through the online admission application form.
